October 1999

Well
I wanted to update my journal and give everyone an idea of what I've been
up to. I've had some negative comments recently on how lax I've been
with updating my site... at least I know a few people are reading!!!
It's
been a busy couple months. Most of the time I've been out working
in various countries. Yesterday I returned from California.
I've been quite active with a couple new startup companies. There
are three of them: Mercury2, CrowdBurst
and Inquire. Inquire is in Munich
and the other two are in San Francisco. Check 'em out!!!
So
I had a bit of time to enjoy myself during my travels. I spent a
weekend in England, and then took a small holiday to Tunisia. So
here we go:
I went
to a friend's wedding in a small town at the center of Champagne country
called Epernay:
They
were married by the mayor of the town. Here are a couple other photos
from the wedding:
The
next weekend I was in England. Here are a few shots:

Then
I went to Tunisia for 6 days. It was a much-needed holiday.
Tunisia is a beautiful country - the people are nice and it's a wonderful
mixture of old world arabic/roman influence along with a splash of Europe.
They don't speak English much, but I got by on my limited French.
They were very receptive to Americans... especially because they dont'
get many there.
The
cities and towns I visited include Tunis, Monastir, Sousse, and Kairoun.
Here
are some photos from Tunis and the beautiful museum in Tunis called the
Bardo. The Bardo has an excellent collection of Roman mosiacs, mostly
from the 1st and 2nd century AD:

I
went to a small north-sea town called Sidi Bou Said, which is quite touristic,
but has a clear greek influence. It's a beautiful ancient coastal
town.
Here
is a view of the souk (market) in the Medina (old town) of Tunis:
Here
are some shots of the Medina in Sousse- which is a coastal town on the
west of Tunisia:
This
is a photo of Kairoun, in the central part of Tunisia, which is one of
the holiest places in Islam:
More
photos taken of Sousse on a different day:
It
was an altogether beautiful visit. I loved the people and hope to
get back soon- there is a lot more to discover, mostly the southern part,
which borders the Sahara desert...
So that was my month, please send me emails and let me know what you think!
Thanks for checking in...
