TOM LEUCHTNER Biography
 

 

 

with nearly 20 years experience in the computer software industry, Tom works as a consultant to entrepreneurs and investors, and is also a part-time professor of marketing at two French universities, the ESCEM Ecole du Commerce in Poitiers, and the INSEEC MBA Institute.

He also actively participates in the founding and/or building of emerging technology businesses through his consultancy InMentors.  In this capacity, he offers emerging software companies strategy, marketing, sales and operational development, executive mentorship and funding support. He has served as chairman, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of European technology consultancy, BeQubed, based in the Netherlands, which focused on design and development of large-scale internet infrastructures such as Internet Banking, CRM, business-to-business transactional systems as well as commercial Internet Portals.

Previously he was Director of Strategic Sales for iPlanet, a  Sun|Netscape Alliance, and Director of Solutions Marketing for Netscape Europe, Middle East and Africa.  Based in Paris, France, he focused on building relationships with senior executives at strategic accounts who needed to define an Internet strategy for their business.  His areas of focus were Internet Portals, including Internet-based branding, one-to-one marketing, customer relationship management, personalisation, and design and deployment of scalable business-to-business infrastructures.  The industries he has worked with include Banking and Financial Services, Insurance, Telecommunications, Manufacturing and Retail.

Before moving to Europe,  he served as the Senior Product Manager for Netscape's Navigator Gold 2.0, 3.0 and the Netscape Communicator Professional Editions 3 and 4, at Netscape's headquarters in Mountain View, California.  

During his time in Silicon Valley , Tom was responsible for the Internet and Groupware Products at NetManage, the fastest growing company in Silicon Valley in 1994 and 1995.  Before NetManage, Tom spent 8 years at Lotus Development Corporation in a variety roles, including Product Manager for cc:Mail Gateways, Lotus Notes and cc:Mail Technical Evangelist, Technical Marketing Manager, Quality Assurance Manager, and various roles in engineering and IT.  At the start of his career, he sold and supported microcomputer systems at a local Boston industry reseller including the original reseller of the Lisa and Macintosh computers from Apple, the IBM PC Jr, and the original IBM PC, the 5150.

Tom also enjoys participating in academic endeavors, education, pedagogical development and young professional development.  He currently serves as a part-time professor of marketing and business at two universities, the MBA Institute (Institut de Management Internationale de Paris), and the ESCEM Ecole du Commerce in Poitiers, teaching international marketing, marketing management, Internet marketing, WebDesign and product management to aspiring MBA candidates.

Tom holds a dual-major Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Computer Science from Boston College, Boston Massachusetts.  He has also studied Graduate Business Management (MBA) at Boston College, Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota, and holds a certificate in Computer Technology from the Control Data Institute.

Currently living in Paris, France, in his spare time Tom enjoys cultural exploration, world travel, history of Paris and the French, music, reading, sailing and his most current passion: scuba diving.
